Do Over

“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.”

“If you could go back and change anything from your life, what would it be?” Janet inquired amongst a group of her colleagues.

Brent, wanting to be the first to answer, boisterously announced, “I wouldn’t change a thing!”

Stunned, Janet persisted. “Nothing? You wouldn’t change a single thing? You’ve never made a decision you regretted?

Brent doubled down. “Nope! I don’t regret a single decision I’ve ever made because it made me who I am today.”

As I listened to the conversation between a gathering of our youngest employees, I doubted Brent’s response as he inhaled chili cheese fries before going to play basketball during his lunch break. My guess was that move would be regretted in less than an hour.

I believe he sincerely appreciated who he was and the decisions that produced such a confident young man. For that, I was impressed. But seriously? Not regretting even one decision?

I firmly believe that God allows us to face difficulties that can shape and mold us into who He wants us to be. I also believe we have the opportunity to learn from decisions and become better with each passing day.

Nobody is immune to bad decision-making. You can learn from your poor decisions or, if you’re fortunate, from other people’s missteps.

If you don’t learn from the decisions you make or from those being made around you, who do you have to blame? You have a new opportunity every day to become a better version of who you are right at this very moment.

- If you are bold enough to believe you shouldn’t “change a thing,” are you bold enough to ask those closest to you if you should change anything?
