Will You Save Me From Myself?

I love people.

I love trying to help people sidestep the landmines I’ve bellyflopped on.

I want to help everyone avoid going through unnecessary pain and suffering.

For some reason, I’ve always felt this overwhelming sense of duty to save people from pain, bad decisions, stupid mistakes, hurtful experiences, and, well . . . learning the hard way.

If you tell me about something you did or plan to do that I consider a horrible idea, I want to share my personal experiences and tell you what you should do. I don’t see that any differently than if I observe you sticking your nose into a cannon, and I pull you away before the Roadrunner lights the fuse.

I love all the words of wisdom about keeping your words of wisdom to yourself. I have tons of quotes about only listening. Even when trying to apply Robert Newton Peck’s words, “Never miss a chance to keep your mouth shut,” I struggle to do just that.

I have been blessed with a LOT of unique experiences that allow me to relate to a vast amount of people in numerous ways. I’ve used those experiences to impact people in positive and life-changing ways. Or . . . seen from another point of view: I’ve butted in, overstepped, not minded my own business, and acted like a know-it-all.

Knowing better doesn’t always mean doing better. Even with positive and loving intentions, it’s easy to do the wrong thing.

For those who never asked, but I told you anyway, please forgive me.

For those who did ask, and I told you, please forgive me.

For those who do and don’t want my advice in the future, please forgive me.
