Blessed? How can anyone tell?

What has life done for you lately?
Maybe you’re thinking: “Life ain’t done nothin’ for me! It’s more like: ‘What has life done to me?’”
Life can beat us down. The people around us can be miserable wretches. Isn’t it our duty to point out all our and the world’s miseries to everyone so the masses will be informed?
In Matthew 5:44 (KJV), Jesus said, “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.”
Does that sound like pretty tall orders from someone who never had to deal with gridlock traffic, put up with conniving coworkers, read such stupidity on Facebook from someone he thought he knew, or was married to a selfish jerk?
The Apostle Paul says in Romans 12:14 (NIV), “Bless those who persecute you.” He goes on to tell us to “Rejoice with those who rejoice” (15) and “Live in harmony with one another.” (16)
Zig Ziglar recommends, “Talk more about your blessings and less about your problems.”
Where do you fall in those categories?
I have an unfortunate habit of griping and complaining instead of speaking lovingly about others. I prefer to persecute those who persecute me!
How do you feel after telling people what you think someone is really like?
Not surprisingly, pointing out what I perceive as someone’s inability to use the prefrontal cortex of their brain never lifts my spirits.
Sharper Leader:
- Do you talk more about your blessings or your problems? Take note of each today and see how you do.
- Do you see more good in your life when you share the good or the bad?
- What is something you once considered awful but now recognize as a blessing in your life?
- I challenge you to go the entire day speaking only kind and encouraging things about others.
