Comfy?

Everyone wants to be comfortable. Right?

You’re probably wondering what could be wrong with comfort.

Don’t get me wrong; I love comfort!

Sure, most things are better when they are comfortable. Pillows. Mattresses. Couches. Shoes. Relationships. Bank accounts.

Who doesn’t like comfort?

Babies love the comfort of being in their momma’s womb.

Children love the comfort of being perched in the lap of a doting parent while reading the same book for the 1,000th time.

Teenagers love the comfort of receiving that first paycheck.

Graduates love the comfort of finishing school to “never have to study again.”

Do you notice any patterns?

Comfort, in any stage of life, is temporary. Even if the goal is comfort, there is no avoiding pain.

Pursuing comfort is actually a pursuit of growth.

If you have no desire to grow, you will not be comfortable. If you stay comfortable for too long, you will not grow. It’s kind of a relentless cycle.

You can love it or despise it about me, but I am a challenger (maybe a "frustrating challenger"). If I’m talking to someone who I believe wants to grow, and they present a problem, even if I agree with them 100%, I will most likely challenge how they view or handle it.

Don’t worry! You can put your pointer finger back in your pocket. I’m an equal opportunity challenger. I challenge myself on just about every thought or action I have. Yes, it’s exhausting and probably unnecessary, but like you, I want to grow.

Sharper Leader:

-          Where have you stayed comfortable too long, and now realize it’s time to lead, learn, and grow?

-          In what area(s) do you need to escape temporary comfort and endure growing pains to experience lasting joy?

-          Who do you have in your life who is willing to challenge you to grow? Do you consider them a curse, or can you refocus to view them as a blessing?
