“Positive energy and positive people create positive results.”

News = negative.
Social media = negative.
Dude in line at the grocery store = negative.
It seems everywhere you turn, you get gently tapped on the shoulder or slapped in the face with negativity.
I recently introduced my bride to Star Wars (we started the right way with Episode IV, and no, she’d never seen it. I know. Shocking!). I’d previously never paid that much attention, but man, even C-3PO is consumed with negativity!
Do you feel exhausted after talking to certain people, but just can’t figure out why?
Does perusing social media or catching up on daily news give you a sense of doom and gloom?
I’m not talking about “burying your head in the sand.” There are undoubtedly bad things in the world. But have you ever tried fasting from negative people and situations? It can be quite rejuvenating.
As a leader, you can’t always be rabbits and rainbows, but pointing out every possible negative thing will drain the life and motivation out of your team. Staying focused on the “what ifs” will lead your team to saying, “Whatever!”
Zig Ziglar said, “Positive thinking will let you do everything better than negative thinking will.” Do you believe that? If not, you may want to try being a tad more positive.
If you’re the type of leader who routinely consumes negativity, it’s awfully hard to come across as positive.
I don’t believe in fairy tales, so I don’t believe a great attitude solves all problems. Throughout my leadership experiences, though, I can’t think of a single time when my constant negative thoughts, comments, or actions created an enjoyable environment for anyone.
