Whatcha Think?

Grinning like a possum, Carie asked her twin brother, Davis, “Whatcha think?”

“What do I think about what?”

With elevated enthusiasm, Carie asked again. “Whatcha think, Davis?”

Frustrated, Davis turned to his exuberant sister. “I’m starting to think that gettin’ a job together was a big mistake.”

“Don’t you love it, Davis? Ain’t this the coolest job ever?”

Davis scoffed. “Are you delusional? I’m already startin’ to hate this place.”

Undeterred, Carie looked around as if she were admiring an art museum. “Oh, I love it! I think it’s the coolest.”

Davis interrupted. “Coolest? This is gonna be the longest summer ever. I’m already sick of takin’ out the trash, moppin’ the floors, cleanin’ up the stupid parking lot, givin’ out a million samples, and puttin’ up with all these irritatin’ people. And, not only that, the tips are lousy!”

Completely impervious to Davis’s complaints, Carie continued joyfully serving her customers.

Smiling and waving at the three children as the family left the tiny shop, Carie waved. “Bye! You cuties, be sure to come on back!”

She turned to help Davis. “I can’t believe how blessed we are! We’ve only been here a week, and Mrs. Joe already left us in charge. We get to take care of this place all by ourselves. The best part is, we get to make people super happy all summer long. This is just the coolest!”

Trying to bring his sister back down to reality, Davis stopped mopping and said, “Get real. We’re just serving ice cream to a bunch of ungrateful brats.”
