Is everyone against you?
Are you constantly fighting for respect?
Do people fail to see your value?
Maybe you may think I’m just as ignorant as everyone else—and maybe I am—but you’re not as awesome as you think.
Respectfully, you are most likely way more part of the problem than you realize.
If people at work think you’re lazy, you’re doing—or not doing—something that makes you appear lazy.
If people believe you have a bad attitude, there’s a strong possibility that you . . . have a bad attitude.
Do you want to be seen as better?
Be better.
What needs improvement?
Your work ethic?
Your attitude?
Your sense of humor?
Your organizational skills?
Your focus?
Your ability to connect with different people?
It’s time to stop groaning and start growing.
Where you feel most criticized or overlooked may actually be the best starting point on your journey of self-improvement.
SHARPER LEADER:
1. Where do people not see your value?
Action Step: Stop groaning and start growing. Seek feedback, coaching, and growth. (Hint: Not everyone will see your value—and that’s okay.)
2. What amazing qualities of yours are people failing to see?
Action Step: Ask someone you trust how you can improve at showing what you want others to see. (Hint: Don’t seek affirmation. Seek improvement.)
3. Do you believe you’re better than people think?
Action Step: Set pride aside and focus on improving. Focus less on what people think about you and more on what people experience with and from you.
