"Fun for Everyone"

As consumers, there is always a certain level of customer service we expect, depending on menu prices—the higher the price, the more we expect to be wowed.
When we order food at a counter, no offense intended, but beyond a friendly “my pleasure,” we typically don’t expect the level of service to knock our socks off. When we are in a hurry, we hope for reasonably priced, clean, and edible—not always in that order.
I recently visited a fast-food, fried chicken restaurant (no, not that one) in Hoover, Alabama, where a single employee captured my undivided attention. From the moment we opened the front door of my first-ever visit to a Super Chix, I was fascinated by the level of love and energy one person brought to their job.
The food was really good, but the customer service took our experience to the next level.
With high-fives for the kids, an enormous smile that never faded, and an unmatched excitement for clearing tables and cheering on his coworkers, I don’t believe I have ever seen anyone enjoy working in a restaurant more than George C. It didn’t feel like he was “working” as much as he was “making a difference” as a Sharper Leader.
I don’t know George’s story, but I know he’s intentionally making it his very own—and joyfully inviting others into it. It was obvious to everyone in the building that George chooses to view his work and his life as a way to serve and love people.
Watching George playfully interact with all the customers, motivate coworkers, and lovingly engage all the kitchen staff inspired me to do a better job of truly inviting others into what I do.
The way he worked with such passion and enthusiasm reminded me of how much fun work should be. George made me want to be a better employee, a better employer, and to make work fun again.
With George’s exceptional work ethic and attitude, I wouldn’t be surprised if he retired from Walt Disney World before taking this job. If you’re in the Hoover, AL area, do yourself a favor and go meet this Sharper Leader before the most expensive restaurants in the state try to hire him.
Sharper Leader:
1. How do you see your work?
Action step: Instead of treating your tasks as menial, make them meaningful.
2. Does your work inspire others?
Action step: Find fun in your work and invite others into the enjoyment.
3. Do you treat your work like it’s hard, or do you work hard at making it fun?
Action step: Evaluate your attitude about your work. If you were witnessing it, would you want to emulate it?
