Scott Sullivan
"A Man Amongst Men"
by Scott Harper
“Happy is the man who can make others better, not merely when he is in their company, but even when he is in their thoughts.”

Do you have anyone in your life who, when they enter a room, everyone else instinctively stands a little taller and exudes more confidence? The kind of person who makes people want to be the best version of themselves just by the way they carry themselves?
Well, I do.
I’ve been waiting to profile this Sharper Leader for quite some time. He’s the kind of person I had in mind when creating SharperLeaders.com.
I’ve known Scott Sullivan for several years, and I’m a better man because of him. While I always enjoy our chats, shared meals, and his backhanded compliments, I almost prefer watching him approach strangers like a heat-seeking missile.
Even though Scott looks like he was once an NFL tight end—6’3”, muscular, and athletic—he’s a self-proclaimed “wee-little man” who makes everyone else feel bigger, stronger, smarter, and more impressive than him in every way. As he engages with others, it’s motivating to see people stand taller, smile wider, and project confidence, just because of the way he interacts—especially with college-aged men.
I’m routinely blessed to be an observing witness to Scott as he introduces himself to people who appear new to the church, directionally challenged, insecure, or overconfident. With great intentionality in every new interaction, if you watch him carefully, you’ll see him subtly take notes about the people he just met. Scott has a knack for seeing people and recognizing when someone needs to be heard, healed, or helped.
Scott is incredible at approaching others with such a humble and unimposing manner; he wins over strangers, casual acquaintances, and well-known friends in a heartfelt way. With skillfully timed compliments, critiques, and encouragement to “make a difference,” Scott consistently challenges men to lead like Jesus, while demonstrating how to do so.
With an inspiring major league baseball playing career, his 2024 induction into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, and a co-owner of a thriving business, he never makes the conversation about himself. Using self-deprecating humor and relentlessly complimenting his wife ("Ms. Leann") and his family, you’d never know of Scott’s worldly accomplishments as he gives all glory to Jesus.
If you’re not afraid to be challenged to “make a difference,” spend time around Scott Sullivan. Every time I’ve been with or around him, I strive to be “Sharper.” He is a steadfast example of being a Sharper Leader, and I’m blessed to call him a friend and mentor.

3. Are you the kind of person who motivates others to be better?
