Who Are You?

Do you know who you are?

If so, how long did it take you to figure it out?

Did someone help you along the way, or was it a self-discovery situation?

For most of my life, I have been a wannabe chameleon hiding in plain sight.

I have a general idea of who I want to be, but it’s a combination of several people’s characteristics.

When I recognize admirable traits in others, I strive to emulate them to become a better version of myself.

People always say, “Just be yourself.” That can be great or terrible advice, depending on who you are.

Most of us have qualities we don’t like about ourselves.

Some of us have qualities that our friends, family, employer, or the law don’t like.

Should we just be ourselves in those areas or try to improve?

When I was a child, I wanted baseball cards bad enough to steal them.

For several years, I’d get so angry that I would shout, blame, and throw things.

I didn’t want to be the kind of person who stole cards, so I stopped collecting them.

I don’t want anger to control me, so I continue learning to manage my own reactions.

Do you want to settle for “That’s just who I am”?

Do you allow others to define you, or are you becoming who you were created to be?

To be a better you, it’s time to stop groaning and start growing.
